Looking back at the first edition of Sustainable Innovation Day

Last Tuesday the first edition of Sustainable Innovation Day took place. Initiators and organizers CKC Seminars and High Tech Campus Eindhoven look back on a very successful first edition. With a group of 150 participants and 25 speakers we discussed sustainable development, innovation and challenges within the industrial sector.

The urgency for more sustainable business operations is clear, but where do you start? And how do you ensure that sustainable thinking and ways of working becomes part of your organizations DNA? Chairman of the day, Marc Vermeulen, kicked off by indicating immediately what sustainable development and innovation is about: behavioral change. Because if we do what we did, we get what we got. Keynote Sara Pieters, innovation expert, inspired the participants to think different, act different but above all to dream different and start to ZEZEL.

During the parallel sessions best practices and insights are shared, focusing on the three pillars: Sustainable Innovation and Technology, Sustainable Environment and Climate and Sustainable HR and Workforce.

After the sustainable lunch there are two inspiring plenary dialogues led by Marc Vermeulen with leaders of the transition and young leaders of the future. During these dialogues there was plenty of interaction with the participants. We ended the day with an inspiring speech by Ruud Veltenaar about the transformation from doing well and making money to doing good and creating value, socially, ecologically and financially. Companies of the future will prosper by solving the world’s problems, not by creating them.

South Pole has compensated the carbon footprint of Sustainable Innovation Day through investing in the Kariba Reforestation project in Zimbabwe, with over a decade of protecting forests, reducing emissions, preserving biodiversity and empowering local communities. Click here for more information.
